Asian markets decline

Asian markets declined for the first time in four days on Tuesday (Dec.4, 2007) on concerns of US economy slowdown, the region`s largest export market.

Commodity stocks such as Rio Tinto Group and Nippon Mining Holdings fell after a report showed that US manufacturing in November had slowed down.

JFE Holdings lost the most among steelmakers.

Japan`s benchmark index Nikkei fell 148.78 points, or 0.95%, to trade at 15,480.19.

Hong Kong`s Hang Seng advanced 221.17 points, or 0.77%, to trade at 28,879.59.

China`s Shanghai Composite added 47.28 points, or 0.97%, to trade at 4,915.89.

Taiwan`s Taiex added 67.44 points, or 0.79%, to trade at 8,651.28.

South Korea`s Kospi gained 15.40 points, or 0.81%, to trade at 1,917.83.

Singapore`s Straits Times gained 6.31 points, or 0.18%, to trade at 3,527.87.
