Heavyweights lift index up 357.61 pts

The 30-share benchmark, BSE Sensex made further inroads into the positive terrain in the earlier trading session. Heavy buying is seen in blue-chip stocks. The index is trading on a strong note.

All sectors except the IT sector were trading in the positive.

BSE Sensex is currently trading at 20,288.29, up 357.61 points, while NSE Nifty, is trading strong at 6,092.40, up 131.8 points (2.19 p.m).

The BSE Midcap rose 1.21% and BSE Smallcap rose 1.64%.

Out of the total 2,890 stocks traded at the BSE, 2,150 advanced, 710 declined, while 30 remained unchanged.

Amongst the sectoral indices, BSE Auto rose 1.17%, BSE Realty rose 3.50%, BSE Metal rose 1.95%, BSE Bankex rose 2.37% and BSE Power rose 0.94%, while BSE IT declined 0.12 %.

Leaders at the BSE Sensex were Bharti Airtel which rose 4.91% to Rs 1,018.10, ONGC rose 4.32% to Rs 1246.15 and ICICI Bank rose 3.02% to Rs 1312.25. HDFC Bank, Hindalco, HDFC, RIL, Bajaj Auto and Grasim also moved up.

Infosys which declined 0.55% to Rs 1738.85 and DLF dipped 0.33% to Rs 1,022.55 were the only two losers at the BSE Sensex.
