Sensex rises 631 pts

The 30-share BSE Sensex has made further inroads into the positive zone. Heavy buying interest is seen amongst investors in pivotal stocks across various sectors. It touched an intraday high of 19,801.87.

All sectors are trading strong.

BSE Sensex was last trading strong at 19,793.57, up 631.00 points while NSE Nifty was trading at 5,954.35, up 187.85 points (2.22 p.m.)

The BSE Midcap added 2.09% and BSE Smallcap added 1.48%.

Out of the total 2,917 stocks traded at the BSE, 2,034 advanced, 852 declined, while 31 remained unchanged.

Amongst the sectoral indices, BSE IT soared 5.40%, Bankex rose 3.12%, FMCG rose 1.35%, BSE Power inched up 2.64% and BSE Realty moved up 2.03%.

Gainers at the BSE Sensex were Wipro which surged 8.03% to Rs 531.25, HDFC rose 6% to Rs 2,888.30 and Infosys rose 5.87% to Rs 1,798.00. TCS, Satyam, Tata Steel, ONGC, ICICI Bank and BHEL also led up.

Bajaj Auto which declined 0.81% to Rs 2770.00 and Maruti dipped 0.49% to Rs 987.00 were among the other losers at the BSE Sensex.
