Heavyweights lift index up 474 pts

Christmas bells have started ringing, with the 30-share BSE Sensex going strong on back of sustained buying interest in pivotal stocks. IT stocks are trading strong.

BSE Sensex was last trading strong at 19,636.90, up 474.33 points while NSE Nifty was trading at 5,893.10, up 126.6 points (11.02 a.m.).

The BSE Midcap added 1.65% and BSE Smallcap added 1.49%.


Out of the total 2,685 stocks traded at the BSE, 1,986 advanced, 658 declined, while 41 remained unchanged.

Amongst the sectoral indices, BSE IT soared 4%, Bankex rose 2.55%, FMCG rose 1.40%, BSE Power inched up 1.77% and BSE Realty moved up 1.79%.

Gainers at the BSE Sensex were Wipro which advanced 4.78% to Rs 515.25, Infosys rose 4.45% to Rs 1,774.00 and TCS rose 4.38% to Rs 1,091.00. HDFC, ICICI Bank, Satyam, ONGC and Bharti Airtel also moved up.

Currently there are no losers at the Sensex.
