Asian markets displayed a mixed trend with most stocks receding, led by Astellas Pharma which dropped in Tokyo after results from Pfizer trailed analyst estimates and Rio Tinto and PetroChina Co. sank further.
Japanese benchmark index Nikkei rose 78.15 points, or 0.58%, to settle at 13,476.45. Hong Kong`s index Hang Seng fell 61.18 points, or 0.25%, to end at 24,197.78. China`s Shanghai Composite declined 67.51 points, or 2.09%, to close at 3,155.23.
Taiwan`s Taiex index dropped 16.09 points, or 0.18%, to settle at 9,074.34. South Korea`s KOSPI climbed 3.23 points, or 0.18%, to end at 1,771.90. Singapore`s Straits Times fell 1.43 points, or 0.05%, to close at 3,124.87.
