Oil slips on rise in supplies

Energy futures slipped further on Wednesday after the US government said crude oil supplies jumped unexpectedly last week.

In its weekly inventory report, the Energy Department`s Energy Information Administration said crude oil supplies rose by 4.3 million barrels last week, the first increase since the week ended Nov. 9.

Light, sweet crude for February delivery fell USD 1.06 to settle at USD 90.84 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange after falling as low as USD 89.26 earlier.

At the pump, meanwhile, retail gas prices slipped 0.7 cent Wednesday to a national average of USD 3.054.

Other energy futures also fell Wednesday. February gasoline dropped 3.09 cents to settle at USD 2.2783 a gallon on the NYMEX and February heating oil fell 2.88 cents to settle at USD 2.5184 a gallon.

February natural gas lost 6.3 cents to settle at USD 8.133 per 1,000 cubic feet.

In London, February Brent crude fell USD 1.23 to settle at USD 89.75 a barrel on the ICE Futures exchange.
