New York light sweet crude for December went up $1.05 to $92.22 dollars per barrel, after the Opec cartel dismissed calls for increased oil supplies.
The renewed increase still leaves oil prices sharply down from last week's peak, when New York's main contract hit a high of $98.62.
The falls came after the International Energy Agency lowered its global demand forecast for crude.
The focus has now turned to Thursday's figures from the US government, which are expected to show that crude oil stockpiles have fallen.
The amount of fuel kept in reserve in the US is particularly important as the high demand winter season begins.
