Mkts still volatile; Infosys, Satyam, Wipro in deep red

The markets still trading weak amid volatility on account of selling taking place in the IT and banking sectors. IT stocks are still under deep pressure and the BSE index was trading with deep cut of over 4%. BSE smallcap and the midcap have underperformed the Sensex today.

At 12:05 pm, the Sensex is down 110.36 points or 0.57% at 19290.31, and the Nifty down 23.00 points or 0.40% at 5763.50. About 1083 shares have advanced, 1867 shares declined, and 113 shares are unchanged.

Top gainers on the Sensex are BHEL at Rs 2,863 up 5.09%, Reliance at Rs 2,737.35 up 3.08% and Larsen & Toubro at Rs 4,220 up 2.29%.

Top losers on the Sensex are Infosys at Rs 1,761.90 down 4.8%, Satyam at Rs 432 down 4.66% and Wipro at Rs 476.95 down 2.13%.

Most active shares on BSE are Reliance Petro at Rs 206.15 with 8,047,537 shares, Reliance Natura at Rs 137 with 11,557,109 shares and Reliance Energy at Rs 1,808 with 161,262 shares.

Mkts choppy in early trade; IT stocks under pressure

The markets are trading choppy. IT stocks are under tremendous pressure. Oil & gas, metal, capital goods stocks are still trading strong. market breadth was weak on NSE with nearly 370 stocks on the advancing side and over 740 stocks on the decline side.

Rupee was quoting at 39.26 against US dollar. Crude oil (Nymex) is heading towards $ 100 per barrel. It was at $ 97.90 on heavy buying.

At 11 am, the Sensex is up 51.62 points or 0.27% at 19452.29, and the Nifty up 30.95 points or 0.53% at 5817.45. About 1255 shares have advanced, 1705 shares declined, and 103 shares are unchanged.

Top gainers on the Nifty are GAIL at Rs 469.10 up 9.11%, Sterlite Inds at Rs 1,045 up 5.53%, BHEL at Rs 2,878 up 4.89%.

Top losers on the Nifty are Infosys at Rs 1,763.90 down 4.74% and Satyam at Rs 431 down 4.59%.

Most active shares on BSE are Reliance Petro at Rs 206.15 with 8,047,537 shares, Reliance Natura at Rs 137 with 11,557,109 shares and Reliance Energy at Rs 1,808 with 161,262 shares.

Mkts open strong; Rel Comm, Bharti, ICICI Bank up

The markets opened on very strong note today on the back of strong cues from the global markets. Broad based buying was witnessed in the early trade today led by the metal, cap good and power stocks.

At 9:56 am, Sensex was up 243 points at 19640 and Nifty was up 69 points at 5855. Major gainers in the opening trade were Rel Comm, Rel Energy, Reliance, Ambuja Cement, BHEL, Bharti, ICICI Bank, ONGC, GAIL, Sterlite. However, the IT pack was subdued and TCS, Satyam, Infosys and Wipro was down.

Asian markets: Asian markets were trading higher. Hong Kong's Hang Seng surged 1.26% or 370.54 points at 29,808.67, Japan's Nikkei advanced 0.43% or 69.17 points at 16,318.80, Taiwan's Taiwan Weighted gained 1% or 92.78 points at 9,385.58, Singapore's Straits Times was up 0.47% or 17.26 points at 3,700.36 and South Korea's Seoul Composite gained 0.94% or 19.24 points at 2,073.48.

US markets: The Dow rose 117.54 points or 0.87%, to 13,660.94. The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 18.10 points, or 1.20%, to 1,520.27, and the Nasdaq composite index rose 30 points or 1.07%, to 2,825.18.
