Asian markets on Friday (November 23) opened mixed; markets in Japan and Hong Kong advanced, while China, Taiwan and South Korea traded in the negative.
Leading exporter Samsung Electronics added gains after it announced its plan to expand its factory to meet the increased demand for liquid-crystal displays.
Japan`s benchmark index Nikkei added 51.11 points, or 0.34%, to trade at 14,888.77.
Hong Kong`s Hang Seng added 610.66 points, or 2.35%, to trade at 26,615.58.
China`s Shanghai Composite fell 49.15 points, or 0.99%, to trade at 4,935.01.
Taiwan`s Taiex fell 14.34 points, or 0.17%, to trade at 8,485.03.
South Korea`s Kospi declined 15.46 points, or 0.86%, to trade at 1,783.56.
Singapore`s Straits Times gained 20.69 points, or 0.62%, to trade at 3,333.57. (8.25 a.m, IST)
