Asian markets opened on positive note on Tuesday (May. 13, 2008), led by technology companies and automakers, after higher profit forecasts by Fujitsu and Isuzu Motors on speculation that the earnings will resist the global slowdown.
Fujitsu rose by the most almost in five years after it estimated that profit will double.
Japan`s index Nikkei 225 rose 88.49 points, or 0.64%, to trade at 13,831.85.
Hong Kong`s index Hang Seng rose 67.70 points, or 0.27%, to trade at 25,130.87.
China`s Shanghai Composite lost 42.52 points, or 1.17%, to trade at 3,584.46.
Taiwan`s Taiex index rose 97.59 points, or 1.11%, to trade at 8,927.64.
South Korea`s KOSPI rose marginally 0.53 points, or 0.03%, to trade at 1,824.23.
Singapore`s Straits Times rose 15.37 points, or 0.48%, to trade at 3,195.53. (8.18 a.m., IST)
