Gold prices rose by Rs 400 to hit a new peak of Rs 13,050 per ten grams on the bullion market in New Delhi, on Thursday (Mar. 06, 2008), on buying interest sparked by reports of the precious metal touching an all-time high in London.
Silver joined the rally as its price in overseas markets touched an over 27-year high. Silver ready surged Rs 1,200 to a new peak of Rs 25,000 per kilo. In London, gold surged to a record USD 995 an ounce.
And the US currency fell to USD 1.53 per euro, the weakest since the euro`s debut in 1999. The dollar also slid to 103.7 yen.
