Market on an upswing

The 30-share BSE index continues to trade strong. Intense buying activity is being witnessed across the board. Sensex touched an intraday high of 16,220.25.

The Sensex is currently trading higher at 16,133.69, up 844.29 points, or 5.52%, while the broad based NSE Nifty is trading at 4,830.00, up 220.15 points, or 4.78% (2.21 p.m.).

Out of the total 2,718 stocks traded, 1,987 advanced, 680 declined, while 51 remained unchanged.

Among the sectoral indices, BSE IT vaulted 7.64%, BSE Bankex and Realty surged 6% each, BSE Metal and Power rose over 5% and BSE Auto was up 3.04%.

Gainers at the Sensex include, Jaiprakash Associates, which surged 11.36% to Rs 223.05, DLF and Infosys rose over 9% each to Rs 655.10 and Rs 1,485.00 respectively. ICICI Bank, TCS, Wipro, HDFC, Satyam, Tata Steel and BHEL are the other gainers.

There are no losers at the BSE Sensex.


European stocks rally


European shares rallied in early trade on Monday (Mar. 25, 2008), mirroring its Asian counterparts, after JPMorgan hiked its bid for Bear Stearns.

US stocks also advanced yesterday to the highest level this month.

UK`s benchmark index, FTSE 100 advanced 200.50 points, or 3.64%, to trade at 5,695.90.

French benchmark index, CAC 40 soared 146.76 points, or 3.24%, to trade at 4,680.83.

Germany`s benchmark index, DAX added 197 points, or 3.12%, to trade at 6,515.99. (2.00 pm, IST)
