The 30-share benchmark index, Sensex traded higher in the previous trading hour on the back of buying interest in pivotal stocks.
The BSE Sensex was last trading at 18,743.08, up 500.50 points, or 2.74 %, while NSE Nifty was trading at 5,479.25, up 162 points (10.45 a.m.).
BSE Midcap index rose 2.84% and BSE Smallcap rose 2.80%.
Out of the total 2,409 stocks traded at the BSE, 1,959 advanced, 417 declined while 33 remained unchanged.
Among the sectoral indices, BSE Auto rose 2.02%, BSE Bankex rose 2.62%, FMCG was up 1.61%, IT inched up 2.78% and Power advanced 3.56% and Metal rose 2.77% and Realty surged 3.90%.
Gainers at the BSE were ONGC, which soared 6.56% to Rs 1,113.05, RComm rose 5.88% to Rs 647.80 and Wipro rose 4.73% to Rs 458.00. Satyam, RIL, BHEL, DLF, SBI and TCS also rose.
