Markets ended weak on Tuesday and were off from their intra-day high. Sensex ended down 54 points at 15542, slipped over 150 points from days high while Nifty closed below 4500 which ended down 10.8 points at 4497, slipped 40 points from days high. CNX Midcap and BSE Small-cap Indices gained marginally. BSE Metal Index was up 1.27%, in which Tata Steel was up 2.24% and Hindalco was up 1.8%. BSE IT Index was down 2.15%, in which HCL Tech was down 3.1%, Infosys was down 2.6% and TCS was down 2.28%. Index gainers were Dabur, up 3.9%, Suzlon, up 3.7%, VSNL, HDFC up nearly 2% each. NSE Advance Decline ratio stood at 5:6. Total market turnover was at Rs 57886.84 crore vs Rs 50287.17 crore on Monday.
In currency market, rupee appreciated by 20 bps at 40.6 (hits intra-day high of 40.54 and low of 40.635) while Yen depreciated by 8 bps at 113.67 (hits intra-day high of 113.35).
In derivatives market, Nifty futures discount was at 10 points vs 8 points on Monday (Discount ranged from 10-20 points). Nifty futures added 21.65 lakh shares in OI. Nifty futures turnover stood at nearly 28% of total FNO turnover. Mid cap banks, power and metals were the strongest sector for the day while IT stocks continue to see fresh shorts.

Misc: Bongaigaon, Ashok Leyland
Short covering was seen in:
Nagarjuna Fertilizers (In F&O curb), Oswal Chemicals, Triveni Engineering
Long unwinding was seen in:
GMR Infra (NSE F&O curb), Dena Bank, Aptech, India Info, Jaiprakash Hydro, Escorts
