State run mining firm Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation (GMDC) soared 10% to Rs 2463.85 and it topped gainers in the BSE’s A group shares. Analysts say mining scrips are rising due to lack of supply of resources while demand remains high.
Drug maker Nicholas Piramal jumped 8.05% to Rs 293.30. It was the second biggest gainer in the A group. As per recent reports, the company would hive off its drug research business unit by June 2008.
Power Grid Corporation of India, which owns India’s inter-regional electric power transmission system, flared up 7.85% to Rs 136.75. It came third among top gainers in A group.
Hospitality firm EIH gained 4.45% t Rs 132.65 and it stood fourth among top gainers in A group. The company will declare Q2 results on 30 October 2007.
Fiber optic cables maker Sterlite Optical Technologies rose 3.78% to Rs 290.95. It was the fifth biggest gainer in A group.
